The Freedom House for Women is an Akron based organization focused on work with homelessness and chemical dependency among women. It began in January 2003 hoping to help women who have become homeless or had problems with dependency on chemicals. Their vision is "to provide services to enhance, enrich and empower women to gain employment skills, sober living, education and economic security to improve their quality of life to achieve self-sufficiency."
In order to obtain such a vision Freedom House has joined in collaboration with the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority, and is made up of members of professional educators, mental health service providers, and judicial leaders.

GOALS
  • Prevent/decrease homelessness
  • Create permanent housing opportunities
  • Increase employment opportunities
  • Decrease chemical dependency
I found this group while searching the internet and it caught my eye because of it's effort on decreasing homelessness. That made me pick them due to my own involvement with a similar organization who also seeks to decrease homelessness and sub-standard housing. My organization is Habitat for Humanity. Though my work with them I have gained a better idea of what it may be like being a single mother without a home.
